Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route

The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is one of the world’s most magnificent mountain sightseeing routes, with a total length of 37.2 km, connecting Ogisawa Station in Omachi, Shinshu, to Tateyama Station in Toyama, on the Sea of Japan, over the Northern Alps.

From Tateyama Station to Ogisawa Station, the route is almost a straight line distance of 25 km from west to east, with a maximum height difference of 1,975 meters.

Transportation along the route includes the Tateyama Ropeway, which offers views of the Tateyama mountain range, an all-underground cable car, an electric bus that passes through a tunnel used in the construction of the Kurobe Dam, and walking on the weir of the Kurobe Dam, the tallest dam in Japan.

Almost the entire route is within the Chubu-Sangaku National Park, passing through the Hida and Tateyama mountain ranges and passing through several scenic spots, including the Kurobe Dam.

There are lodging facilities at stations along the route, and each of them serves as a base for mountain climbing, walking, trekking, and other sightseeing courses.

The route opens in mid-April and closes in mid-November (weather permitting).
