The Azumino Chihiro Art Museum is one of the world’s largest picture book museums, exhibiting the works of Chihiro Iwasaki, a picture book artist who continued to draw various expressions of children throughout her life, and other picture book artists from around the world.
In addition to Chihiro Iwasaki’s masterpieces, picture book originals, drawings, and sketches, the museum also exhibits works by picture book artists from around the world, including Asia, Europe, and America.
The warmth of the woody interior includes a library with approximately 3,000 picture books, a children’s room where children can freely read and enjoy their creativity, a cafe with loungers and an open terrace where visitors can take a short break, and a museum store.
Surrounding the building is a 53,500-square-meter park where visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through Totto-chan Square, which recreates the world of “Totto-chan at the Window” (written by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi), the Patsouská Garden designed by Czech picture book artist and illustrator Květá Patsouská, and the riverside area of the clear Milk River, where children and adults alike can enjoy a day at leisure. Both children and adults can enjoy a relaxing day at the museum.
