Ichinoseenchi Nature Park

A Highland Landscape of Seasonal Beauty in Norikura Kogen

Ichinoseenchi Nature Park is a vast natural area covering approximately 600,000 square meters in the central part of Norikura Kogen in Azumi, Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture. Located at an elevation of around 1,500 meters, the park offers an opportunity to experience the changing beauty of the Japanese Alps throughout the year.

In spring, delicate Asian skunk cabbage flowers bloom across the wetlands. Summer brings fields of brilliant red Japanese azaleas, while autumn transforms the surrounding mountains into a spectacular display of golden and crimson foliage. In winter, snow quietly blankets the landscape, creating ideal conditions for activities such as nature skiing. With a different atmosphere in every season, Ichinoseenchi is a wonderful destination for anyone who enjoys spending time in nature.

A Vast Outdoor Space for Connecting with Nature

A clear stream flows through the park, its gentle sound adding to the peaceful atmosphere. In warmer months, children can often be seen playing in the shallow water, making the area especially appealing to families. The cool summer climate and clean mountain air are also ideal for enjoying activities such as barbecues and cycling.

Surrounded by forests, meadows, streams, and mountains, the open landscape provides a refreshing escape from the noise and routines of everyday life. Visitors can simply walk, relax, photograph the scenery, or spend time outdoors at their own pace.

Wetlands, Boardwalks, and Seasonal Flowers

The wetland area of Ichinoseenchi features wooden boardwalks that make it easy to explore the landscape. A wide variety of flowers bloom throughout the year, including Asian skunk cabbage, lily of the valley, and Japanese azaleas, offering a different view with every visit.

At the back of the park is Ichinose Campground, where visitors can enjoy camping surrounded by nature. To protect the environment, camping is strictly prohibited outside designated areas.

To the west of the campground lies an extensive colony of Asian skunk cabbage. In spring, its white flowers cover the ground and create an enchanting scene amid the fresh greenery of the highlands.

The Origin of the Name and the Flow of the Water

The name Ichinoseenchi comes from its location near the headwaters of the Ichinose River. The river joins the Maekawa River near Igaya Recreation Land, and its waters eventually flow into the Azusa River.

Before the completion of Nagawa Watari Dam, the local water system was different, with the Maekawa joining the Kodai-no-gawa River before flowing into the Azusa River. Today, Lake Azusa, the reservoir created by the dam, forms an important part of the area’s modern water system.

Seasonal Flowers and Scenic Views

The area around Ichinoseenchi is one of the best-known flower-viewing destinations in Norikura Kogen. It is also home to several scenic viewpoints, particularly along the route toward Osomejikke and around Maime Pond. These landscapes are considered among the Eight Scenic Views of Norikura.
