Fujimi Kogen Resort

A Highland Resort of Flowers, Mountains, and Panoramic Views

Fujimi Kogen Resort is a year-round mountain resort located in Fujimi Town, Suwa District, Nagano Prefecture. Set at an elevation of more than 1,300 meters, the resort offers spectacular views of the Southern Alps, with Mount Fuji visible in the distance on clear days.

Winter brings skiing and snowboarding, while from spring through autumn the resort becomes a destination for flowers, hiking, art, and scenic excursions. Highlights include the flower-filled Hana no Sato, the artistic landscape of Sozo no Mori, and the elevated sightseeing experience known as the Tenku Sightseeing Cart.

Enjoy the Resort Throughout the Four Seasons

One of the greatest attractions of Fujimi Kogen Resort is that it remains enjoyable even when there is no snow. In spring, wildflowers add color to the highland landscape. Summer brings cool mountain breezes, making it an ideal season for trekking and hiking. In autumn, the surrounding mountains turn brilliant shades of red and gold, while the crisp air makes the distant scenery especially clear.

The Tenku Sightseeing Cart travels approximately 1,500 meters while climbing an elevation difference of about 200 meters. The barrier-free carts are designed to be accessible to children, older visitors, and people with disabilities. During the approximately 25-minute ride, passengers can enjoy a relaxed journey through the highland landscape toward the Sozo no Mori observation area and its spectacular views of Mount Fuji.

Hana no Sato: A Highland Garden in Full Bloom

Hana no Sato is a colorful flower garden spread across the highlands at an elevation of approximately 1,300 meters. In summer, the ski slopes are transformed into a vast flower garden, where approximately 6,500 perennial plants representing around 160 varieties bloom across the landscape.

The flowers change with the seasons. Visitors can encounter Nikko-kisuge daylilies, lilies, zinnias, and many other varieties as the summer progresses. The garden is divided into several areas, including the Birch Forest Area and Romance Area, each offering a different atmosphere.

Hydrangeas, pinks, and daylilies blooming among the white-barked birch trees create an especially enchanting landscape. The combination of colorful flowers, cool highland air, and quiet woodland makes Hana no Sato a relaxing place to walk and enjoy nature.

Nighttime Illumination and Photogenic Scenery

From late July to mid-August, Hana no Sato may be illuminated in the evening, transforming the flower garden into a magical nighttime landscape.

The illuminated birch trees and flowers create a dreamlike atmosphere that is particularly popular with photographers. During this period, the garden is open from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., allowing visitors to experience a completely different side of the highlands after sunset.

Sozo no Mori: Art and Mountain Views

Sozo no Mori is an artistic park where approximately 50 contemporary sculptures are displayed among the natural landscape. Rather than being confined to an indoor gallery, the artworks are integrated into the forest and open spaces, creating an unusual meeting point between art and nature.

At the observation area reached by the Tenku Sightseeing Cart, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Southern Alps, Northern Alps, Yatsugatake Mountains, and Mount Fuji.

The view of Mount Fuji from this area has been selected as one of the Kanto Fuji View 100 Scenic Spots. The beauty of the landscape around sunset has also been recognized as one of the 100 Shinshu Sunset Points.

Seasonal Flowers and Highland Nature

The natural landscape of Fujimi Kogen changes continuously throughout the year. In spring, lindera and wild mountain cherry trees begin to bloom. Early summer brings rhododendrons and azaleas, followed by Nikko-kisuge daylilies and Japanese primroses during summer.

In autumn, bellflowers and monkshood add splashes of color to the landscape. When the surrounding forests turn red and gold, the view from the observation area becomes particularly impressive.

Every season offers a different opportunity to observe the plants and landscapes characteristic of the highlands.

Outdoor Activities and Experiences

Fujimi Kogen Resort offers a variety of activities that make use of its high-altitude natural environment. The Jeunesse sports complex provides opportunities for high-altitude training, while the Fujimi Kogen Hiking Course allows visitors to explore the forests of Sozo no Mori.

The hiking route continues from Sozo no Mori toward Fudo Shimizu and Sakazuki Nagashi. Surrounded by quiet forests and fresh greenery, the route is a refreshing way to experience the mountain environment at a relaxed pace.

Families can also enjoy the resort’s camping facilities. Spending an evening around a campfire beneath a sky filled with stars offers a memorable way to experience the highland atmosphere after dark.

Fujimi Kogen Onsen Shikanoyu

Fujimi Kogen Onsen Shikanoyu is a natural hot spring whose water rises from approximately 1,800 meters underground. One of its unusual characteristics is that the color of the hot spring water changes over time.

At certain times, the water can take on a distinctive greenish hue, creating a mysterious and memorable bathing experience. The facility can also be used for day trips, making it a convenient place to relax and recover after hiking or sightseeing.

For visitors wishing to stay overnight, Hotel Happoen Shikanoyu provides accommodation, while vacation rental properties that allow pets are also available. These facilities make Fujimi Kogen suitable for longer stays as well as day trips.

Winter at Fujimi Kogen Ski Resort

When winter arrives, the resort’s ski slopes open and the area becomes a popular destination, particularly for families. Located on the southwestern slope of Mount Nishi-dake in the Yatsugatake Mountains, the ski resort is known for its convenient access from the Tokyo area and its favorable weather conditions.

The area has a high rate of clear weather, while the snow conditions are generally suitable for comfortable skiing. The resort offers terrain for beginners and intermediate skiers, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors.

Center Slope and Family-Friendly Areas

The Center Slope has a skiing distance of approximately 600 meters and a maximum gradient of 26 degrees. Skiers can enjoy the impressive scenery of the Southern Alps while descending the mountain.

For beginners, the Romance Slope provides gentler terrain. Families with young children can also make use of Kids Snow Land, a dedicated snow-play area.

Access to Fujimi Kogen Resort

By car, the resort is approximately 7 kilometers from the Kobuchizawa Interchange on the Chuo Expressway and approximately 10 kilometers from the Suwa-Minami Interchange, making it convenient for visitors traveling from both directions.

By train, the nearest stations are JR Kobuchizawa Station and Fujimi Station on the Chuo Main Line.
