Fujimi Panorama Resort

A Four-Season Mountain Resort for Outdoor Adventures

Fujimi Panorama Resort is a highland resort in Fujimi Town, Suwa District, Nagano Prefecture, offering a wide range of outdoor activities throughout the year. The resort’s ski slopes extend along the eastern slopes of Mount Nyukasa, located at the northern end of the Southern Alps.

In winter, the resort becomes a popular destination for skiing, snowboarding, and snow trekking. When the snow melts, the mountains turn green and welcome mountain bikers, hikers, paragliders, and visitors seeking seasonal wildflowers.

The resort’s high elevation provides cool, clear air and magnificent views toward the Yatsugatake Mountains and Mount Fuji. It is also easily accessible from the Tokyo metropolitan area, with the Suwa-Minami Interchange on the Chuo Expressway only about 5 kilometers away.

Winter Adventures: Skiing and Snow Trekking

During winter, Fujimi Panorama Resort is transformed into a snowy mountain playground. One of its signature attractions is a 3,000-meter-long ski run with an elevation difference of approximately 730 meters.

An eight-passenger gondola carries visitors quickly to the upper mountain, where skiers and snowboarders can descend while enjoying expansive views of the surrounding mountains.

The area is known for its high rate of clear weather, and from the slopes visitors can enjoy impressive panoramas of the Northern and Southern Yatsugatake ranges. The high elevation helps maintain favorable snow conditions, while snowmaking equipment provides additional support for the ski season.

Courses for Beginners and Experienced Skiers

The courses along the gondola are mainly suited to intermediate and advanced skiers. Beginners and families with young children can instead use the gentler Center Slope and Family Slope.

Snowboarders can also enjoy the slopes throughout the resort, while the Kids Park provides a dedicated area where children can play in the snow.

Mount Nyukasa Snow Trekking

For visitors who prefer walking to skiing, Mount Nyukasa Snow Trekking is another popular winter activity. From the gondola’s upper station, it takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach the summit.

From the top, hikers are rewarded with a spectacular 360-degree panorama that includes Mount Fuji and the surrounding Alpine ranges. The combination of snow-covered mountains and clear winter skies creates an unforgettable highland landscape.

Winter Ski Areas

During the winter season, the resort generally operates from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Its ski areas include Konashigente, Larch, Alpine, Linden, Cedar, Center, and Family slopes, offering terrain ranging from beginner to advanced level. A Kids Park is also available for younger visitors.

Summer Activities: Mountain Biking and Paragliding

As the snow disappears, Fujimi Panorama Resort changes into a lush green mountain destination. Its slopes become a large-scale mountain biking field that attracts riders from across Japan.

The MTB area offers courses for different levels, including Course A for advanced riders, Course B for intermediate riders, and Course C for beginners. There is also an easier course designed for people trying mountain biking for the first time.

Among mountain biking enthusiasts, the area is widely known simply as “Fujimi”. Domestic competitions and international events have been held here, giving the resort a special place in Japan’s mountain biking community.

Rental bicycles are also available, making it possible for families and beginners to experience mountain biking without bringing their own equipment.

Paragliding Over the Highland Landscape

The JMB Fujimi Panorama Paragliding School offers visitors the opportunity to take to the skies above the mountains. Flying through the clear highland air while looking down over the surrounding landscape provides a completely different perspective on the area.

With its combination of high elevation, expansive open terrain, and mountain scenery, Fujimi is an appealing setting for experiencing paragliding.

Mount Nyukasa and the Wildflower Park

Around the upper gondola station, visitors can explore the Mount Nyukasa Suzuran Wildflower Park and Mount Nyukasa Wetland. These natural areas are known for their seasonal displays of mountain flowers.

In May, dogtooth violets bloom across the mountain. June brings large numbers of suzuran lily-of-the-valley flowers, while summer brings other distinctive alpine plants, including the endangered Kamanashi lady’s slipper orchid.

A Million Lily-of-the-Valley Flowers

The display of approximately one million lily-of-the-valley plants in June is one of the area’s most memorable seasonal sights. Their delicate white flowers and gentle fragrance create a peaceful atmosphere across the highland landscape.

Visitors may also encounter rare plants that are being protected through conservation efforts, including the endangered Kamanashi lady’s slipper orchid and the wildflower Ichiyoran, which has formed colonies through ongoing preservation activities.

Yatsugatake Observation Deck

A short walk beyond the flower park leads to the Yatsugatake Observation Deck, which has been selected as one of Japan’s “Lovers’ Sanctuary” sites.

From the observation point, visitors can enjoy views of the Yatsugatake Mountains, Mount Fuji, and Mount Kaikoma. The combination of alpine flowers and distant mountain peaks makes this a particularly attractive destination for photography and leisurely walks.

Seasonal Highlights

Spring

Spring brings approximately 50,000 dogtooth violets and up to 1.2 million lily-of-the-valley plants to the mountain landscape. As the flowers bloom, the highlands are filled with their colors and fragrances.

Summer

Summer is an ideal season for exploring the mountain wildflowers. Scabiosa and Nikko-kisuge daylilies sway in the mountain breeze, while the cool highland climate provides a refreshing environment for walking and nature observation.

Autumn

In autumn, Ezo gentians add deep blue and purple tones to the landscape. During October, the resort operates a special Autumn Foliage Gondola, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing colors from above.

On clear days, the golden mountains can be viewed together with Mount Fuji, creating one of the most impressive autumn panoramas in the area.

Premium Sea of Clouds Gondola

From late September through November, a special early-morning Sea of Clouds Gondola operates on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

When weather conditions are right, visitors can rise above a vast sea of clouds as the first light of dawn spreads across the mountains. Watching the sunrise illuminate the clouds from above is a particularly atmospheric way to experience the Fujimi Highlands.

Access and Facilities

Fujimi Panorama Resort is approximately 5 kilometers from the Suwa-Minami Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. The resort has parking for approximately 2,000 vehicles.

By train, the nearest station is Fujimi Station on the JR Chuo Main Line. The resort is approximately seven minutes away by car from the station.

A Mountain Resort for Every Season

Fujimi Panorama Resort offers a different experience in every season. Winter transforms the mountain into a snow resort for skiing, snowboarding, and trekking. Spring and summer bring alpine flowers and lush greenery, while autumn paints the mountains in brilliant colors.

Beyond its seasonal scenery, the resort offers mountain biking, paragliding, hiking, gondola rides, and spectacular viewpoints. Visitors can explore the mountains actively or simply ride the gondola and enjoy the panoramic landscape from above.

With its refreshing mountain air, seasonal flowers, clear skies, and sweeping views toward Mount Fuji, the Yatsugatake Mountains, and the Alps, Fujimi Panorama Resort is a destination where the natural beauty of the Nagano highlands can be enjoyed throughout the year.
